Mission
Statement for the Mars Hill
College Athletic Training Major
The mission of the Mars
Hill College Athletic Training major is
to provide a comprehensive, progressive
educational program to prepare the liberal
arts student for a career in athletic
training. The Commission on
Accreditation of Athletic Training
Education (CAATE) accredits athletic
training educational programs. The
CAATE accredited educational
program includes formal instruction and
clinical experience in the prevention,
recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation
of the physically active. This preparation
along with successfully passing the
Board of Certification (BOC) examination will qualify
students for entry-level careers in athletic
training.
Philosophy
of the Mars Hill College
Athletic Training Program
The athletic trainer is
associated with every sport and team of
Mars Hill College. The athletic training
student is an integral part of the
Athletic training Program. Together,
they form the Athletic Training Staff,
whose job is to provide the necessary
first contact with the injured athlete.
In addition to caring for the injured
athlete, the athletic training staff is
responsible for: the prevention of athletic
injuries, recognition, treatment, and
care to all injured athletes, supervision
of all treatments, and the rehabilitation
of the injured athlete.
For our athletic teams
to be successful at Mars Hill, everyone
from the coaches, the athletes, the team
managers and the athletic trainers must
be dedicated and enthusiastic. We must
work as hard or harder than the athletes
who practice daily. We must be willing
to deliver up to our full potential: in
the classroom, the athletic training facility,
and on the practice field or court. Our
success as a staff (as an educational
program) will be measured on how well
you perform in the classroom, how you
conduct yourself among the coaches and
athletes and how well you perform the
skills necessary to become an athletic
trainer.
